The Think Bottle Blog was created to gather great art, ideas, and inspiration into one place. I hope you get inspired to take a chance and dive into something of your own. Plus it’s a great place to interact with me on a daily basis. Cheers!
Hello, It’s Me

Hello it’s me- I know it’s been ages since we last spoke and I wish I had a good excuse to offer up other than I’ve been hard at work painting and drawing my pictures.
I guess I’ve always had the tendency to lose my sense of time and space when I’m deep into work, but I think it’s gotten more pronounced. Those around me have noted a marked decrease in the uptake of even the bare essential nutrients recommended by the USDA (a federal agency) while the other senses of those same people make it abundantly clear that I have not applied my deodorant in a sufficient manner or amount proscribed by the manufacturer to maintain a close circle of friends. Finally I’ve developed a curious habit of allowing little bubbles of spittle to gather at the corners of my mouth and my eyes no longer blink; this is all quite alarming.
This is oceans away from the way I imagined my “blaaawg” would become. I always thought it would grow its own brain and little typee fingers and start talking in “Davy-ese” all by itself. Instead it’s gotten moldy like a 6 month old liverwurst and has begun to speak in tongues. Yes tongues! How else can you explain the cryptic and diabolical gibberish that has taken root in the cracks of the comments section like so many gorschthorns and Heffalump- droppings. It’s commonly known as “SPAM” I’m told and rather than thoughtful queries and tidbits of wisdom flowing forth from the readers of my brainblog, it’s begun to resemble the ramblings of a mad man. Or maybe even a bit like Senator John Kyl as he explains how he doesn’t have time to vote for world-wide nuclear weapons reduction because he has to buy Christmas tube socks for Mrs. Kyl.
No I’m not talking about questions like “what is my favorite breakfast cereal” or “what kind of sable brushes do {I} prefer to paint with”. I’m talking about a pitch from North Korea’s Kim Jung Il who wants me to purchase a water softener and a fellow named Earnest T. Bass who will personally write a college essay for me that is “for the most part un-plagiarized”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all of the stuff that grew in the dark one night like stinky toadstools, is totally useless; I’m still excitedly awaiting word from a very nice gentleman in Kaduna, Nigeria who promised to wire $4.7 million into my debit account at Huntington Bank. I haven’t heard from him since last Thursday but I’m not concerned; it’s monsoon season right now so I’m sure he’s just having trouble catching a cab to make the transfer; I will be patient.
In the mean time, here is my latest entry. Please read it with a forgiving eye, I have tried to remain clear-headed and focused but it’s not easy typing and applying Visine while wearing a bib and thinking about a cool $4.7 million dollar windfall. But I can do it-I’m a professional.

OMG! I see what you mean about the comments on your blog. They are gross and disgusting indeed. I have never paid much attention to the literacy of illustration, at a conscious level, anyway. After I had kids I began to read books to them and your artwork stood out to me over the years. As a child I didn’t read much at all. Kids today are so fortunate to have the enormous ocean of book variety available to them. With all of that said, I am taking a grad. Children’s Lit. class and have to do a presentation on an illustrator and of couse you are my choice! Anything “Davy-ese” you’d like me to include in my presentation?

Dave, I love that you have a blog! I hear you on the comment spam… such a waste of space! Thank you for all the wonderful illustrations you have created over the years… you are truly gifted and amazing! Our family has loved and collected every book with your name on it over the years. As a mother I struggle to capture the reading interests of my three boys but when we pull out the books with your pictures my kids are all paying attention… so much so that it is hard to read through them quickly… Lots of Loves from us and keep up the amazing work!

Hi Dave! I am not a “blawger” but maybe I should be. I have a lot of fabulous ideas that just float around in my head and then slip out of my ears at night when I sleep. What a waste. I should share all of my ideas with you and other worthy individuals…well not all of my ideas. You know me so you know that I have a slightly goofy sense of humor. However, my goofiness is not as good as yours.
Politics. I have lots of ideas about that, but I an sum them all up in just a two-word phrase…“we’re screwed”. At least, after the lame-duck session is over…and I think it’s amazing the amount of work the folks in D.C. can accomplish when they know they have a holiday deadline and that about 100 of them are leaving for good.
Christmas. Now that’s a subject that I love…it is a wonderful day when I can be with all of my family and thank God we are together. I love the anticipation of the day, and it would be wonderful if it had more hours than all the other days of the year because it goes so fast. I love watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and the Peanuts special. I’ve been watching both since the mid 1960’s and I will probably be watching them when I’m rocking in my adult diapers in the rest home. I could probably recite all of the lines and sing all of the songs.
Food. Don’t you just love a good meal? I know to some “society types” a good meal has to cost a wad of money in a hoity-toity restaurant, but not me. A good meal is one that’s at least somewhat healthy, tastes great, is probably home made, and hopefully is shared with some friends who have a jolly sense of humor.
Coincidence. Now, you probably won’t believe this, Dave, but you are not the only one waiting on a wire from Nigeria. Me too! But it won’t change me…I have vowed that when that money appears in my account, I will be the same semi-goofy, somewhat humorous, food-loving, elf that I’ve always been. But I’ll probably buy my own copy of the Grinch and Charlie Brown’s Christmas special!
Happy Holidays!
